I'm very sad to say I've just heard through Scott that our friend Butch Baldassari has passed away. Butch is survived by his wife Sinclair and son Blake.
Scott is in transit at the moment, and we will have more details for those wishing to express condolences soon. |

Very sad indeed. Rest in peace Butch.
I would love to know which organizations the family would like people to make donations in his memory. |

I'm very saddened to hear this.
Every Friday I email around a new mandolin recording to my coworkers (nothing up to Cafe standards but I'm learning). It's become sort of a tradition. Yesterday I sent around "Waltz for Bill Monroe," by Butch, which I learned it off Mandozine. I explained how it was Butch's nod to the Big Mon. Someone (with more ablity than I) should write a Waltz for Butch.

Rest in peace, Butch. I hope to play with you some day across that river.
Sinclair and Blake, you two have blessed your husband and father during these difficult months. My deepest condolences and prayers are with you now. To all who knew and loved Butch personally, I hope you can remember the joy of his life in your grief at his passing. Jamie

Oh, that's terrible news! I am very, very saddened to hear it. Being a cancer survivor myself, this hits very close to home and I was so praying that Butch would also beat it.

I knew the day was coming but it still saddens me deeply. We have lost a great musician and a great ambassador for the mandolin. My sincere condolences to Sinclair, Blake and the rest of Butch's family and friends.
On the brighter side, Butch's legacy will live on through his music and the music that he taught to hundreds of aspiring mandolinists! |

Sinclair and Blake,
I wish you peace, patience, strength, and good grieving as you mourn and celebrate the wonderful life of your husband and father. We'll remember him as a great musician who influenced many of us through his playing and through his grace as he lived with cancer. Sincerely, Phil |

I'm going to load the CD player with his CDs and play his music for the rest of the day.
