Bad as it looks (and is), some good came of this weekend tragedy. Nobody got hurt, all involved are still friends, the 1940s Martin guitar and the Gibson Distressed MM didn't get hit, and I get to start the search for a new mandolin. It certainly is a bummer that such a nice instrument met such a grisly and untimely fate though.
I know the difference between accidents and stupids. This was an accident. It happened in a parking lot where it was run over this weekend at the BigHornMountainFestival. I understand there were several wakes held for it, some folks even started a replacement fund (which will probably be donated to the festival as the instrument will be covered) and we may have a memorial jam next year.
Weird as this might sound, I was actually relieved it was only my mandolin. When my friend approached me with this horrified look on her face and said she had some terrible news, I was instantly thinking of my wife and daughters, and bracing for the worst. It wasn't good, but it really is just a mandolin. My poor friend was devastated.
Looks like I'll be watching the Classifieds (I see a couple of Kimble's are there now).
Anyway, 'nuff said.
Cheers to all,
Bill
