I saw John and the Jaybirds here in Van last Sunday. They offered some tunes from their new album in the works. Maybe it'll be out before the new year. That'd get my vote.

Steffey's. I think me and some other folks who picked up the record melted it in the first week...yeah, its really good. And not because of the mando pickin, while there is plenty of that, the vocals and song selections is what really sets it apart!

Honestly the only one i've really heard is Adam Steffey's.
It's wonderful.
Other than Josh Williams' i wouldn't have a large desire to listen to the rest.

I don't have everything Flatt & Scruggs recorded yet.

(there should be a "son" in there somewhere)

You sound a bit like a fan of traditional bluegrass. If that's the case I would reccomend that you give a listen to Johnny Williams. This one is pretty straight down the middle grass by a guy with a truly wonderful singing voice. From a mandolin perspective there are some tasty tones comming from a guy named Chase Johner. Check the mando kick off to Last Day of Galax, you'll see. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

There are some samples on the link I included above.

Heck, I couldn't do that even when I was young (back in the 1940's).

I started to say I didn't buy anything this year. But I did buy David Davis &warrior river boys new release. I also purchased a Danny Paisley release. Also I bought a Steel Drivers album, but I don't like it much.

I'm soooo out of date. But I'm OK with that. Most of the time when I get to a jam someone says play _________ by some band or name that has arisen in the last 15-20 years, and the song is a cover from the first or second generation of bluegrassers. Luckly I usually know it.

ferinstance : Rebecca has gotten to be a real regular jam hit around here. But most folks never even heard of Hershel Sizemore. Hrumph!

Not strictly bluegrass, but I absolutely love Bryan Sutton's 2009 release, Almost Live, which features a ton of talent including Chris Thile, Sam Bush, and Tim O'Brien.

Well, while we're on the "not strictly bluegrasss" tangent I have to mention Mike Marshall's Big Trio. I have it on my honorable mentions list and will air it from time to time on my bluegrass radio program.

My other honorable mentions are:

Sam Bush - Circles Around Me
The Steep Canyon Rangers - Deep In The Shade
