What's billed as the first bluegrass festival at sea will take place in early 2013.
Music cruise organizer Sixthman on Monday announced plans for the Mountain Song at Sea cruise, as it's being called -- a three-night, music-filled trip to the Bahamas on Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Sky.
Kicking off in Miami on Feb. 1, 2013, the sailing will boast performances by more than a dozen bluegrass, folk and acoustic artists, including The David Grisman Sextet, Del McCoury Band, Steep Canyon Rangers, Tim O'Brien & Bryan Sutton, The Kruger Brothers, Peter Rowan, Larry Keel & Natural Bridge, The Travelin' McCourys, Shannon Whitworth, Della Mae and Town Mountain.
Sixthman says the voyage will feature intimate performances, collaborations, spontaneous jams, activities and Q&A sessions with the artists.
Sixthman is teaming with Mountain Song Productions and Steep Canyon Rangers to organize the event. Tickets will be available to the public in mid-May but fans can sign up now for a pre-sale booking. Fares start at $495 per person, baesd on double occupancy and not including government taxes and fees.
