Default music as architecture (no mandolin content)

I just stumbled across this striking animation of Bach's old warhorse the Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor. Although a traditional musical score provides some degree of visualization, the clip takes the depiction of sonic structures to a new level. Things get especially lively at the beginning of the fugue at 2:50. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipzR9bhei_o&feature=fvw

"'Architecture,' said Hegel, 'is frozen music.' Donald Swann's music has often been compared with defrosted architecture." -- Michael Flanders

It's a good thing I don't have to dwell within my music.

I thought it was Johann Wolfgang von Goethe that likened architecture to frozen music. That's where I got it from.....I've titled numerous of my art pieces Frozen Music, then add an Opus number.

There doesn't seem to be a consensus about the origin of this expression. Schlegel, Geothe, Wilde, Scott, and Hegel all seem to have relied on it. Take your pick.

You mean it wasn't Laurie Anderson?
