I recently got me a Epiphone Mandobir IV to rock out with. I really like it.
However, I noticed that the tuning pegs felt a little loose, so I tightened it. Somehow - and I surely didn't use excess force - the bushing cracked right off in the screw thread... Damnit... ![]() So. Does anyone know what Grover tuners (what model No) is used on these babies? Or has anyone replaced their Mandobird tuners with another brand? |

hi Stew mac has a set of 3L3R Grover mini-tuners for guitar, but these i'm pretty sure would be what you're after... the Epi'birdIV would be using the Right sided ones.
maybe check to see if they can sell you just one right sided tuner? also check the spec tab to make sure they are the right ones. I've thought about putting a set of Steinberger tuners on mine, because they're really popular with the firebird crowd and keep the clean look of rear-facing tuners. I haven't gone far enough to find out if they'd actually fit ( i suspect the shaft would be too thick), as they are quite pricey, especially considering the starting price of the instrument, and the set of 6 factor... |

There isn't a match to those tuners. I've known several people who have had difficulty with them and have had trouble getting replacement. It wouldn't surprise me if you could find some by posting an add in the wants ads in the classified section. Maybe you can get the unbroken sets of another mandobird owner.

When i've been looking online now it seems most left side mini-grovers would fit. I guess many tuners with screw bushings would work, but I would really like to avoid having to drill new holes for the little screw in the back. good idea with posting an ad. i'll do that!
those steinbergers looked pretty far out! but i'm not sure it's the right thing for me. hehe. oh. and with meaning "left-side" i'm really meaning "leftie" as in a reversed headstock (i'm coming from the electric guitar world. hehehe), but you're right the tuners are for the right side of the headstock. |

I think we're on the same page with need rights or lefts... the orientation of the 6 inline set on stew mac would be the wrong way round (it doesn't say if these are lefts or rights, but yes, effectively you need left handed grover mini-tuners.)
UPDATE... Grover website has the left handed inline sets... product code 205CL6 Chrome. in the 3 left 3 right pack, you get 3 of each side, and with this set as you look at the headstock from the front, you would need the tuners on the right side. hopefully an avenue will become apparent for spares/replacements with singles... I have posed the Question to stew-mac, keep us posted with the Gibson option. Last edited by Vanner098; 11-08-2009 at 08:31 PM. |
