Hi Michael,
I had one dispute (an idiot sent me a busted, rusted guitar). The seller only refunded purchase price and not shipping. I contacted PayPal and, I think, within a week I had the shipping refunded as well. In other words, they worked for me. Hopefully you'll have the same luck. Pete

I had to file a dispute claim with Paypal once - I'd bought some drum hardware on ebay and was waiting on it for about a month - the seller finally contacted me AFTER Paypal contacted him to inform him a dispute claim had been filed. The guy gave me all this guff about how he had been on vacation, then had an illness in the family, blah blah blah. He still couldn't explain why he was unable to send me a simple email in the entire 4 weeks to explain any of this. And it was interesting just how quickly he got back to me once Paypal got involved (within hours). Here's hoping the same happens for you and your Paypal action spurs the seller to keep his end of the bargain or refund your money.
Cheers, Jill

Five or six years ago, I bought a piece of electronics from an ebayer with an excellent record over a three year period. Neither I or ebay/PayPal ever found out if he died, went to jail or was abducted by aliens, but nothing came. Well, I figured I was covered by the then $500 insured covererage they bragged about on the PayPal site. I paid $350 and no matter what I said, they only offered $175 of my money back. What crooks! It finally dawned on me to contact the fraud division of the bank that issued my credit card ( I selected funding through my credit card and still do ) and the bank told PayPal to go climb a rope. I got ALL of my money back. Good Luck!

I had a dispute with a seller in regards to some on-line banjo lessons. The guy just flat out ripped me off for $59.95. I had proof from the sellers own web site that he was having problems with his downloads, but paypal wouldn't refund my money, and neither would the seller. Come to find out, paypal WON'T refund on non-tangible items, such as on-line lessons.
I have a doctor's appointment in December, and if I get more bad news about my health, I've got a feeling I'll be spending the rest of my life as a guest of the Kentucky prison system, for getting even with him, but that's another story. |

I've had a few disputes with Ebayers that Paypal settled. No problemo.

It's why I have Paypal Buyer's Credit. There's one more protection added there and the only dispute I've ever filed was resolved in days.

I had to file a claim with Paypal for an instrument not as described and the seller would not honor his return policy. I got a full refund (not on shipping though). Paypal is very good about working with these situations. You will get your money back. I think they have a $2000 buyers protection limit, last I checked.

One time a seller sent me an ukulele so poorly packaged that it got cracked; so I actually located a phone number for paypal, spoke to a live person, told him packaging was so bad I couldn't/wouldn't repack and ship; the next day there was a full credit from paypal into my account, then I sold the uke on craigslist as a fixer upper.

Let me give you another, more heartwarming story: I bought a Polk-A-Lay-Lee, a long-necked "surfer uke" that's about four feet long, on eBay. Paid for it with a money order. Despite a pretty decent packing job, the end of the neck (above the tuners) broke in shipment. The seller sent me a check to cover the cost of having it repaired, after an exchange of e-mails. There are really ethical and responsive eBay sellers out there, and I hope we realize this, as well as dealing with the sellers who try to scam us.

Michael, Paypal does a good job of protecting the buyer. Unless the seller has proof it was delivered to you door, you should get a full refund. Make sure you make a claim with Paypal. The seller will have to respond and show some kind of proof it was delivered not shipped. If he can't, it will be in your favor. Good luck!

Agree with the above. Make sure you get all claims/complaints in well within the Ebay/Paypal time limits.. look in their complaints procedures for those limits.
Good luck. H

I would like to thank everyone for their support and helpful information. So far even paypal can't contact the seller, who had a very good track record. I have a strange feeling that the seller is ill or maybe worse. I'll keep you posted as to the outcome.
Thanks,

I have bought quite a few mandolins on Ebay and have to say that I have been lucky in that I have not been stiffed yet.
Of course I have been extremely careful too but luck is also a part of it. My biggest dissapointments have been in purchasing from uninformed sellers. To someone not in the loop on mandolins their ideas on "excellent condition" can vary wildly from that of us in the know. For this reason I have become much more hesitant in paying very much for mandolins from the guy who thinks it is a little guitar. Lessons in life. I feel for those of you who have been blatently scammed. That is a different thing altogether. I dread the day that it might happen to me. |

A few years ago I bought an xbox from ebay, paid by paypal and 2 weeks later still hadn't received it. I emailed a few times to no reply. Eventually I got a reply saying that it had been posted.
Another week later it still hadn't arrived, so I emailed again saying that it hadn't turned up and that if I didn't have a reply within the next 24 hours I would be filing a dispute with ebay for not sending the goods. I went through filing the dispute, and there was an option to get the sellers details(address phone number etc..). I filled these out, and it said that I could get the details, but at the same time it would send the seller my details. Well I had nothing to lose, so filler it out, and I was emailed all his details. So I picked up the phone, and rang the number. The guys mum answered the phone, didn't know that he had sold the xbox, but knew that he still had it. She said to me that I had nothing to worry about, and that I would receive it within a few days. Sure enough a few days later a box turned up with the xbox in it, and extra games as a way of an apology. So do you think its worth getting his mum envolved?? haha |

All,
I am happy to report that e-bay/paypal has refunded my money for the item that never shipped. I have restored faith in the greatest shopping store on earth.
