This thread is a shot in the dark. But i think i have a good idea. I've become aware of a craft fair to benefit multiple sclerosis in december in wassilla alaska. These folks are putting a lot of effort into doing a good thing. A strange idea popped into my head, maybe if a jam just happened to materialize to entertain and what better than some cafe folks in that area doing what cafe folks do best. Sitting indoors on chilly days jamming. There i planted the seed, i hope it grows into some fine tonewood for a worthy cause.

Jamming for charity is a cool thing to do. Once our twice a year our weekly jammers get together on a weekend for one charitable organization or another.

Our local weekly jam is a loose group of folks, who participate with verying degrees of consistency. What we have in common loving and playing the music.
What I am getting at is that it is important to identify clearly to all concerned what the charitable cause is about, before you comit the jammers. Finding the cures to diseases is not usually something too controversial, but anything vaguely political or sometimes even environmental, and folks should know ahead of time so they can bow out gracefully if it is not something they want to support.

jeff that is a good point. while i have always been a person willing to jam, anytime, anywhere. there are certain issues i would decline from assisting. at this time in my life i am struggling back to the jam, slowly but making progress, from being paralized in the floor hugging a weber after a serious exacerbation of multiple sclerosis. the charity event in alaska is something being done by a fellow sufferer of this incurable disease. i am in virginia, but thought maybe i could assist them. after what i've been through many of the things people argue over just don't matter anymore. raising awareness and helping those afflicted with multiple sclerosis, cancer, cerebral palsey and other lifeshattering diseases are a priority. and learning to play mandolin with numb fingers until i can stand with my beloved bass and find a jam is a prime motivator. i encourage anyone capable of using their time and talents to help or entertain the afflicted to do so. thank you.

I started a bluegrass show 3 years ago to benefit Cystic Fibrosis. Last weekend I just competed the details to have our first 3 day bluegrass festival in Michigan in 2010. It's one of the most rewarding things I've been part of. You can never go wrong help people that need it!!!!!

jimmy keep us posted on the 2010 event...if i have hand controls and am able to travel by then...i will show up with bells on...if not able to travel i have freinds in western mich. and will ask them to go and buy me a t-shirt. mandolin has proven the best occupational therapy i've found so far for my fine motor skills. today i'm hammering on the collings mf. it's all loud and in ones face aggressive, perfect for calling attention to important issues like helping the afflicted. the cedar weber is more freindly and comforting, she holds my hand through the dark days.
