Ken Ratcliff has been naming his Silver Angels (and previously, Silver Eagles) ever since he first started making them. At least all the F-models...(mine is Cynthia) He pencils the name on the inside of the back...I've found that some folks who have bougt Silver Angels used didn't realize that they were named, and when I pointed it out to them they were quite surprised.

So I've been looking at that avatar of yours and I kept thinking, "that reminds me of something...."

DC Blood is quite correct. My Silver Angel is named 'Oliva.' (Not 'Olivia' - only one 'i' in the name.) The mandolin player in the Gospel/Bluegrass band I'm in (Jackie Walters - AKA 'Angelfire') has a Silver Angel A-style named 'Angelina Abril' - or I guess "April Angel." I've had a number of Silver Angel owners email me - the names of their instruments include Gabrielle, Selena, Carmelita, Yana, Carolina, and Tamara - just to name a few.

You gotta peek inside the F-holes to see the names, but Ken Ratcliff usually has the name 'within sight.'

He (Ken) also - on a semi-related note - has been known to write a few lines (often in Spanish) on the 'bottom of the top' with his thoughts about how that particular mandolin's crafting was going or how good he thought it would sound. Gotta use a dental mirror to see that though!

My old Gibson I call "The old F-2". My electric I call "The old Fender electric". I know that doesn't show much imagination, but I did have a Westie named Vassar Clements once.

I named the first 26 mandolins, using a woman's name beginning with the appropriate letter of the alphabet. My favorite was Ethel, a quite plain model with a lot of charm. I was glad, though, when number 27 came around and I could move on.

I STILL love Dr. Seuss.

I'm going with Ziggy. Or Stinkey.

I named my instruments, but when I tried to introduce them to others, they said "No names please, we've already been humiliated enough!"

I was always taught never to name my horses, because you shouldn't name what you might have to eat. For me, I love them all, but I don't want to name something I might sell or trade. Frank

It takes a turtle hoarder to pry the names of my mandolins out into the public eye, but you may be disapointed. They all,(three) have the same name, the same as my 67 BSA, which are named after the heroine in the Dudley DoRight cartoons, Nell. It gets a little confusing sometimes, but thank God I can't play and ride at the same time!
