What do you think?
From Collings: The MF5 O is our fully appointmend oval hole F-style model. Features Include: * Select Adirondack spruce top * Premium maple back, sides and neck * Full high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish * Grained ivoroid binding on body, neck and peghead * Black/white purflings * Grained ivoroid rosette and bound soundhole * 13 frets to the body * 22-fret radiused ebony fingerboard * Adjustable truss rod * X-bracing * Collings adjustable ebony bridge * Mother-of-pearl Collings logo * Pearl dot fingerboard inlays * Ebony peghead overlay * Flourish peghead inlay * Bone nut * Collings original one-piece tailpiece * Nickel or gold tuners

Lovely, I was looking at that on the Collings site yesterday - any idea what the price on it is going to be like? (not that I can afford the likes of it or anything, but a gal can dream, can't she?!)
Cheers, Jill

That's an unusual neck body join location. I would like to hear how it sounded compared to a 15 fret hybrid and tradtional 12 fret neck.

Jamie,
That is the first thing I noticed. And, since it is fully appointed, I would expect retail price to be somewhere around $7200.00 (?). I would be interested in comments on how the location of the neck join effects the tone on these oval holes.

I have nothing against Collings. I've played a few that I really like but I'm not excited about this model. Something about it looks a bit "off" to me. And, at $7200, it's no bargain.

According to the information I was able to obtain, the list on these is $8300, and with the customary Collings-allowed discount would come to $7470.
That would seem to be right in line with the current values on top condition vintage Gibson F4's pricing. And it comes with a warranty.

It's exactly the type of instrument I'd like to add to my arsenal, but they've priced me out. The A oval is too high also. Nice, though.

I had a chance to shoot some promo video for Collings last week. Some of the MF5 OV. When you watch the YouTube videos click to watch in High Quality, the little HQ logo. The audio sounds bad in standard quality as well.
Check this out: FM5 OV jam http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWoTm...e=channel_page MF5 OV demo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBKjb...e=channel_page Some others: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjMNw...e=channel_page http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1xdE...e=channel_page I think in the next few weeks Collings will add some more that I produced to their website, check under www.collingsguitars.com, under Resources, then Videos. |
