Hey ya'll. I've been looking around for an oval for awhile and had almost decided to go with an A-Jr, but this popped up and I snagged it. Weber is making these Gallatins now with maple backs instead of mahogany, and it has a great, tubby sound. The picture gives it a sort of reddish tint, but it is old-shoe brown. It also has some really pleasing flame on the back and sides.

I am really pleased with the purchase, and part of that is due to Dennis over at the Mandolin Store. That guy is knowledgeable, friendly and got me this mandolin in no time flat and it was exactly as described. I like that kind of business. He also put a strap button on the heel for no charge and the setup is dead on. He's a guy I'd do business with again, to be sure.

If you're looking for a no-frills oval at a reasonable price, this is a good one.

Yup, I have been watching that one. It is one of the ovals that may grace my door someday. I would want dots on the fretboard, no knot and "Weber" in script, sans "The" on this one.

That one is really nice Steve, how does the sound in person match up to the clip on his site? I think it is one of the best sounding ovals based on that clip. Congradulations! Now you two get a room!

Thanks Jaime, Ken and Rod. Ken, it has a surprisingly strong tone. It does have that bottom, tubby oval sound but it also has plenty of punch. I picked it for awhile last night in a three person jam with fiddle and guitar and it held its own just fine. My guitar buddy is a hardcore bluegrasser and generally sneers at ovals, but even he admitted that the top "must be cut right". It's a good mando for the coin.

Very nice! I've been eyeballin' that one since it came on the Store website. Thanks for removing the temptation. With several options to go with in oval As these days, makes for a tough choice. Looks like you made the right one.

Sweet, Steve! Very nice. I'm a Weber fan, meself.

Dennis ain't too bad a guy himself. He's done me nothing but good ever since I began working with him.

Hey, where did Dennis put that strap button? I have been half tempted to put one on my Bighorn. Hanging the strap from the head stock just isn't workin'.
