    Question Is this possible?

Pardon if this has been asked before, but has anyone restrung a short scale acoustic to create their own 5, or 6, string 'tenor guitar'? For example, could a Baby Taylor (scale length just shy of 23") be restrung CGDAE? It was also suggested in another thread to try NST of CGDAEG. Would these strings/gauges work for such a restringing?

I guess this would blend a tenor guitar and octave mandolin?

I had read about a nine string guitar where lower 3 strings were single strings and higher 3 were double coarse sets. Wonder how it would be to cut a new nut so as to make G D aa ee? Just a thought. Back to napping with my youngest Grandblessing

My other thought was CGDAEE, which I guess would be?

Thanks for the link .... missed this thread when searching. Looks like people have tried different tunings with full scale acoustics. Still curious what anyone has tried with a short scale acoustic.

I've done CGDAEE on a 25.5 inch scale acoustic. I also have a squier mini which is 22.75 inch scale converted to a five string tune FCGDA. If I were to do that again, I'd probably start with a Rondo telecaster.

I just posted this in another thread, but i thought it was relevant to this thread too.

I have my Taylor GS Mini tuned to NST (CGDAEG) and it sounds great. I'm tempted to see if I can get the G tuned up to an A or B buy using an alternate string. Robert Fripp and others in Guitar Circle have been experimenting with an A440 string from http://octave4plus.com - but considering the shorter scale of the GS Mini, it should be easy to tune it to B.

I'm currently using either the Pearse NST strings or the "official" NST strings; both sound great. I've also ordered custom sets of Elixir strings for NST, which I've used on other guitars.
