Does anyone have any info on F5 type mandolins called "The Loar" by Bruce Weber and some friends? I know only a few were made. Do they have a varnish finish , dovetail joint Loar specs for instance? Thank you, Nick

"The Loar" is a brand of mandolins and guitars produced in China by The Music Link of California. Bruce Weber heads a very different enterprise, but has certainly taken old Gibsons, particularly including ones signed by Lloyd Loar, very seriously and effectively. As far as I know, Mr. Weber has never invoked the name Loar in any of his products. You might want to check the archives for more info, and this thread in particular to get caught up on "The Loar" mandolins.

Paul, Sound To Earth did produce a small number of "The Loar" F-style mandolins; I think it was in the early '90s.

Nick, you asked the same question back in 2005. Here is the thread with the answers from back then. One of the answers was from Vern Brekke at Weber. He might be able to shed some further light on the subject if you PM him.

Thanks for this, I was unaware that batch of eight had ever happened. I'm not sure why Nick asked the same question again six years later after it had been so succinctly answered already, but I'm glad he did, as I learned something.

Look at the date of his post in this thread - 2-14-2005. This thread is 3 1/2 years old.

Now I'm confused. It popped up this morning as a new thread. It must have been the first response. It looks like it was double posted way back in 2005. I am so confused.

I wonder if Paul was just looking for The Loar threads and answered this old one. That's the most likely scenario. The First post was from 02-14-2005, 08:05 PM followed by Paul's response today. It would have shown up as a New Post on the forum after Paul responded. Double posted in 2005 about an hour apart.

Here's Nick's other thread started one hour after this thread...

You’re dazed, bewildered, trapped in a world without time, where sound collides with color and shadows explode. You see a message board up ahead — this is no ordinary message board… You have reached, The Cafe's Twilight Zone....

And no, I didn't go looking for it. It was right out front last night as if it was a new post. Fortunately I am comfortable in the Twilight Zone, having spent a good deal of my life there already.

Wiggy. Looks like some clown barf got in the system. I wonder if bugginess like this isn't to be expected when copying the forum data from one software to another... just look what happend with the titles of our replies through this thread. The OP was copied over from the old forum!

Wierd. And I believe both of you...

Maybe somebody replied, then realized it was an old post and deleted their post. and maybe the thread was updated. I will try to duplcate with another old posting.
