Thread: What finger ?

    I an learning the tune down yonder the tab I have shows 5 4 3 2 on the a string. What fingers should I use on each note? I was taught to use index on 1 & 2 2nd on 3 & 4 and 3rd on 5 & 6. I know this sounds dumb but I don't get it Big Dan.

    I would probably just use my four fingers for the four notes. Those "what finger on what frets" guidelines are just that, guidelines, not hard and fast rules. You have to consider what kind of sound you want, how your fingering sets you up for what notes come next and what works best for you. Of course, the slide mentioned in the previous post would work also.

    I was told to use the third finger for 5th fret and pinky for 6th and 7th frets. It took a bit of time for me to develop proper use of my pinky, but it now seem quite natural.
