    Default New to This Insanity

I've been messing around with a cheap beginner mandolin for the past year and just made a big jump to the Weber Gallatin F. Fantastic instrument. I got it from the Mando Shop and Kyle did a great job on the setup and was extremely accommodating. I play bluegrass but would like to know more about getting a good start at Celtic. I'm new to the cafe. Any hints at navigating this massive site?

The secret to playing traditional Irish music is to learn the tunes. There is very little improvisation.

I know it sounds glib. But the melody is king in Celtic.

Luckily most of the tunes are not that difficult, and there are many resources for getting them in notation or tab or ABC.

The key takeaway: is that there is not really a substitute for learning the tunes.
A talent for trivializin' the momentous and complicatin' the obvious.

No Affiliation, and all the music is in standard. (If you don't know it it's a great opportunity to learn!)

That is a lovely website! Thank you! I just read a few reviews for fun and had no idea there was so much musically to playing tin whistle. I was also happy to see I owned all the Chieftains recordings he recommends. If they are touring your area, go see them! I've been to four or five concerts over nearly thirty years and the present show they've put together is absolutely the best and most energetic.

The Song-a-Week group in this corner of the Cafe has many Irish tunes.

Sorry, I cannot seriously contribute here.
