    Default Good Luthier in Ohio...

Does anyone know of a good luthier in northern Ohio? I live on the west side of Cleveland and I know I will have to drive a bit for a good luthier that knows mandolins. I would like my set up checked and possibly adding a second strap button on the treble side of the neck base. Anyone know of a good luthier in the area?

    Londy -

Have you talked to Ed Goist? The guy that 'hot-rodded' Ed's new Ovation sounds like a candidate.

    Hi Londy:

Varg from Guitar Slinger Music in Vienna, OH (Trumbull County), did the work on my Ovation and he did a great job. Here's the website, and the number is 330-469-5446. I do know that the completion time on his jobs has increased quite a bit as word has gotten around about how good he is. I recently asked him about possibly refretting my Gibson MK-35 and he said that he could "maybe fit me into April". However, the turnaround on a set-up and strap button install might be much shorter.

I have also heard very good things about Dave Howard, and he is much closer for you.

I'd also recommend Ken Lesko of Rainbow Guitar Repair (he works out of his home and picks-up at Motters locations). Ken has done all the set-up work on my acoustic guitars, and he dose outstanding work. However, the last time I spoke with Ken he was no longer working on mandolins.

Good luck. Let us know who you decide on, and how the work turns out.
