Default Musician's Friend Stupid Deal of the Day (2013-03-12)

The Michael Kelly MKLFSTB Legacy Festival Mandolin Tobacco Burst for $349.

I have no connection to this deal - I just thought it was interesting to see a mandolin deal come up on this site.

Hard to beat a hand-carved, solid wood F-model for less than $400. MK's don't get a lotta respect for their acoustic sound, but this is a bargain by almost any standard.

If you can perform a Monroe "ala scrape' " with a good pocket knife on that triple dipped lacquer finish they turn out sounding pretty darn good.

Maybe its me but it sure seems that the Mando is getting a lot more mainstream attention these days.
Amateurs practice until they can play it right.
Professionals practice until they can't play it wrong.

I have a MK A solid that I've played for about 8 years. It's not in the same league as my Weber, but it was a great instrument to learn on and sounds much better than pretty much any other entry-level mandolin I've ever played. I still play it all the time and my 9 year old loves to jam on it. I know that the consistency is not necessarily there with MK mandolins (and I think I got a good one by luck) but it is hard to beat for under $350. The tuners are Grovers, so it stays in tune, which I think is the biggest problem I've seen with some instruments this cheap.
