Default Walter and Christie gone from Gruhn

Christie Carter had helped me with mandolin orders in the past, and Walter Carter had played mandolins for me over the phone and given me his (usually very taciturn) assessment of instruments. I guess that I had just as good service from the people I normally deal with on the guitar side (like Keith), but I will still miss them.

Nice couple, they both helped me nicely a few times. I wonder what they're up to...

Christie and Walter are great folks, and I wish them well in whatever they're moving on to.

I visited Gruhn's from CA.in 2010 to see Steve Gilchrist. Christie was most cordial and welcomed me to the inner sanctum of her office and the mando treasures that were kept there.

Here's some news that's not necessarily secret but was posted on Facebook by Sinclair Baldassari and is of interest to this community:

Two of my very best friends, Christie and Walter Carter, know more about stringed instruments than just about anybody. They will be opening their own fantastic store complete with repair and appraisal capabilities, right here in Music City, in the new year. I think it will be called "Carter and Carter Vintage Strings". Call on them if you need any of their services, including buying, selling or consigning for yourself.

I'd just go with "Carter Vintage Strings". Saying Carter and Carter makes things harder and harder...

But then you don't know which Carter. This is great news, though. A new place to bleed me dry! They'll do great, but good luck to them anyway.

Posted on Facebook by Sinclair Baldassari:

The word is finally out all over town and all the musicians are excited... Christie and Walter Carter have bought the building at 625 8th Avenue South (by Arnold's) for their fantastic guitar store opening early 2013.

Interestingly, this is less than a mile from their former employer's location.

What happened to the good old non-compete clause?

I highly doubt that Walter and Christie signed any type of a contract. I'm sure there is a very good reason why they left after being there for so many years. I've heard George isn't always the best person to work for. Anyone had any experiences dealing with them since the Carters left?

Except for shareholders owning more than 3% of the corporation AND with a very well constructed non-compete agreement it is nearly impossible to enforce a non-compete. For practical purposes it is impossible to enforce with regard to someone who was JUST an employee, no matter what position that employee held.

When I am up and able to walk this will be a place I plan to visit. Reading everyone post about their knowledge and kindness, I want to visit their store in Nashville. I only live a little over an hour and half away.
