Default Double Fugue by William Boyce 1710-1779

    Originally for organ

With slight modification the guitar part should be playable on octave mandola

It also sounds quite good with the guitar part double an octave lower on a bass instrument.

A typical 'woffly' 18th century fugue ....Not quite up there with Bach, but quite fun to play.

I've been looking through some of the various arrangements that Andy has posted here on the Cafe over the past couple of years, and came across this one which went a bit under the radar at the time but is a really nice little late Baroque/early Classical fugue, fairly straightforward to play.

Here is my recording. I've used a mandola (or rather my waldzither, set up as mandola) instead of guitar as the part doesn't drop below D and therefore sits nicely on mandola. So, this is a trio of two mandolins and mandola. All vintage instruments:

    1890s Umberto Ceccherini mandolin
    1915 Luigi Embergher mandolin
    1925 Zimmermann waldzither
