So, does any one know how to play this song? My brother in law request it the other day when I was goofing around on the mandolin and I was stumped trying to pick it out by ear. I was pretty thrilled that a 17 year old actually was listening to the music I had given him when he usually listens to Nickelback lol

After watching this, I have figured out most of the chords. I'm not sure what they all are yet because some of them are kinda funky, but I will try and write them all out next time I get a chance to play.

I am still struggling with the intro though. When I slow it down and play along, I think I have it, but at speed the notes I am hitting don't seem right anymore. Anyone?

Today I was revisiting this song to relearn it, and I realized I never came back to post the chords to this... So here they are for anyone who wants them. Still not sure about the mandolin intro that Chris Thile actually plays though, so if anyone can figure that out and post it, it would be much appreciated...

To clarify, I found that video online, it's not me. The chords he uses in the video are not what Chris plays, but I think they sound pretty good with the song. I would love to figure out how Thile plays it too.

I don't know if this will help at all but the chords Chris plays during the Chorus are probably up an octave. This is just what I have observed by watching a video of them live.

Some of the live performances are played a half step up from the album version. From watching them I don't think the chords are an octave higher, but are just played higher up the neck on lower strings.

Hello all. This is my first ever post to this forum so hopefully (though a few years late), should be of some use. The live version is as Chris Thile plays it. The recorded version is my assumption of how the studio version was played. The first chord is one heck of a stretch but it gives a more fluid sound than the alternative.

I know it's many years later, but thanks to this video being posted recently https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0-WwdiWjFM, I was able to figure out a couple of the chords today. It's not even near being finished, just the start really, but I thought this might be able to help someone out. I'll try and finish this soon and post the entire thing.



EDIT: To make it clear, the chords in this would go at the end of each verse (eg; under the lyrics; "..children, I bet they're just like me.")
