Default Mandolin related personalized license plates

Looks like we haven't had this topic since 2008 ish so I thought I'd see if there was any fresh ideas out there. I personally don't feel that I play well enough for a vanity plate but the one I thought of today was MANDOUP in the spirit of the Cowboy Up stickers that I see.

    This oughta be fun.

If I may, a suggestion: put a dot or dash between MANDO and UP to make it clearer. I have had only one vanity plate in my life, as there was a time when, for once, I was making a bit more money than I was spending, and had a car I thought was going to last a long time. I went with BLUE.ST for ''Blue Street,'' a recent and rather well-liked song of mine, about living in on a street in a, um, funky neighborhood, and the car ('65 Chevy Nova) was blue, so ... Anyway, CT only allowed six characters (plus one punctuation), and without that dot it would have said BLUEST, which was not what I wanted it to mean.

Whatever you do, be just a bit careful. You don't want to incur the wrath of these guys:

    My car's a '94 VW Jetta which I LOVE (190K original miles), but it is a 94...
So, if I had a vanity plate it would probably be:

Really? I've been to Georgia, and there are definitely more than seven characters!!!

But seriously - there are way more than seven characters!

But seriously - I guess that's why you didn't go with ''MANDODAN'' in the first place.

At least in America you are able to get what you specifically want, albeit with some limitations on numbers of characters, etc. In the UK there is almighty obsession with so-called 'personalised number plates', except that only existing, formulated sequences of numbers and letters are allowed. This means the roads are littered with cars whose plates are meant, if you are blind in one eye and looking through a half-filled beerglass with the other, to 'look a bit like' they say something - with the number 3 supposed to look like an E, a 4 like an A, 6 like a G, etc. Quite pathetic, really especially when, by definition every number plate in the UK is unique, so is, by definition, absolutely personalised.

In the spirit of participation, I've been thinking of looking for SAD 61T, but so far, procrastination has prevailed.

Yeah, Zeke, I've been thinking of getting "GDAE" on my plate.
Just six characters? Here in Ontario the max is eight, which allows for a lot more choices.

You want to be careful. You don't want to be publicly humiliated when they announce on the PA "Will the owner of red convertable with license plate B-U-C-K-O please come to the front desk. Thats B-U-C-K-O."

    I don't even own a car..........
but I have never , ever, seen the point of a personalised number plate. they only mean something to the person who owns the car. As he or she is usually behind the wheel- and therefore can't see the said number plate. ..........??????

the ones in the U.K. are normally of the dumb blonde variety anyway. sheeeeeeeesh - If I could afford a personalised plate Id get another guitar instead...

homejame, you could get OBFUSCATE or some iteration of the same. Most personalized plates are between $50-100 for the life of the plate. That's getting you some packages of strings for your guitar rather than another one.

Sweet! But is it II (major) or ii (minor)? (DMVs only allow capital letters.)

homejame - It's communication, of a rather random sort. And yes, it may be silly, pointless, extravagant - not unlike playing music, especially on a fussy little instrument few recognize, understand, or care about, but we do it anyway. I know it brightens my day, even for just a little while, a chuckle's worth, when I see a well-turned one. And if I ever were to see a plate like any of these, I would know I had just crossed paths with a fellow mandolinist, a rare and cherished treat. Much honking, maybe an impromptu jam would ensue. It would be a shame to miss out on the opportunity to make that a possibility.

Fortunately I don't need a vanity plate. When I registered my car, the plate the clerk was handing me was one digit off from my birth date, and she was kind enough to oblige my request to swap. And the three letters are a contraction of the name of a well-known town in my home state, a time-honored cultural center. So there is plenty there of a personally relatable nature already. Also easy to remember.

My all-time favorite celebrity plate: Lawrence Welk's, A1 ANA 2.
