Default Great deal on an A style case

I really wish I needed a case, this looks like a super deal. The shipping is free as well. Obviously NFI.

C'mon, we know you get $15 for each one they sell.

Seriously, these were the ones I liked until the price abruptly jumped from $29 to $69.

I'm going to order one when I get back from dinner. I actually need a case just like this.

I loved the original $29.00 A style case they had. It fit the old short necked mandolins perfectly. Jim Garber turned me onto them years ago. This one looks good for the money. I almost bought one and I don't even need an A case right now.

Thanks for the bone, Mike, I was in the market for a case. The one Paul linked is nice for the short-neck-fit (which is what I need) but I can do a shuffle. I do like the back-pack style straps on the soft-shell one. (We're whining about a $64 case?)

What are you housing in yours F-D?

    Mick

BTW, F-D…I just got an email/photo from a HouTex bud who is currently in Richmond and at the AA ballpark there. We're all stadium nuts and on the road a lot and faithfully update each other with reports. Looks like a nice place (I love minor league baseball.)

I haven't been to Richmond in ages and ages. I dated a woman who was a curator at a 'costume/clothing museum' of some kind there. Can't recall the name. Maybe you know it? Lots of ante-bellum, Ford-Theater kind of dresses. I was a pup. She was lovely, so was the place, and the city as I recall.

two years ago I ordered a Cohen and a Muth (both a-styles). The Muth doesn't come with a case, so that's what's going in it. The Muth is a redwood/big-leaf a5. It should be done in a month or so. I'm not sure which ones I'll ultimately keep, but I'll sell my Flatiron A5-1 before I'll part with my Cohen. I had a life event two years ago (job change and stock-buyout - nothing too big) so I splurged on two custom builds.

With my '23 A2Z, I'm swimming in inventory. That's a fun mandolin to play too. I have my pancake at work for some therapy during the day.

The Flying Squirrels are our AA team. Their games are a lot of fun.

I am! Seriously, they don't fit old short-necked Gibson A's, but they do fit longer-necked A-5's and such. And assorted other odd pear-shaped mandolins.

That's a great story and some nice sounding mandolins. A custom build is next on my MAS agenda, even before I build one myself I'm afraid. Letting it settle in as to whether it should be a bowl or an A, but as I age the longer scale becomes more simpatico.

Just got a photo of a 'cowboy monkey' riding a dog at the Flying Squirrels' park. We used to go down to Nuevo Laredo to watch baseball a lot when I was a kid. The Mexican League food was 'better', the beer a LOT cheaper, but we're catching up on the stunts.

Sorry, Paul: my bad. I thought you were touting them for SHORT neck mandos, which is what I needed. Still, looks like a deal for $64. A parking ticket in this Ivory Tower town costs $29!

Mike, that does look like a good one, tho I am a little wary of those ABS cases. I remember a friend had a fiddle case where the top warped some and it never closed right. I would hope the ones made today are much better.

The $29 one that Mike refers to is now sold as this one, tho it is $39.99 and different from the original one. I would buy that ABS one but I still have an empty MF original A when I bought 3 on sale. I just need to find a mandolin to put in it.

Looks like a wonderful case, but I've come to love putting an A in a F style case. All kinds of room for tuners, wipe cloths etc. Wonder how they can do dat for so cheap? I have two concerns though....doesn't seem like there's any padding around the edges at all(unlike the case Paul linked to), and why do they say it has 3 latches, when it only has two??? Inquiring minds wanna know.

I saw that, too, Tony and wondered the same. Cut-and-paste copy writing is my guess. Not enough supervision on the websites.

I did order one last night so I can feedback when it arrives. I needed something for a 13" scale Leland flatback I just bought. Won't be lugging it around, just needed a case for here in the house. I'll probably get one of the 'soft' cases like Paul has posted. The one I have now is just a bit TOO soft.

Musicians Friend seems to have problems with the numbers of latches. I ordered a tweed bass case because it showed 4 latches in the picture. It arrived with only 3 on the case. It's a conspiracy.

Don't tempt me. If I bought that case, I'd have to buy another A-style to go in it...

Shopping on the net really is a double edged sword. It gives you more access, but not always the crucial details. It would really help to get accurate dimensions. I don't know if it's a conspiracy of disinformation or incompetence. I love those places that you can spin the pic/object in any direction. But that's not the norm. It would seem the folks who are trying to sell it aren't always the ones who would use it, neither are the ones writing the copy, or the person taking the pic for the website. It is a totally daunting thing to think of MF updating the millions of things they have on their website though.

Doesn't it seem like this case has been discontinued, especially at this price? There I go with my bummer attitude again

I agree but at that price most of the occupants would be preventing damage in my instrument closet. My good mandolins are in archtop cases.

compared to a chipboard case, it's a 10. compared to a real case. . . ? don't bother. A $70.00 TKL provides MUCH better value. There is no structure to this case at all. The underpinnings (i.e., accessory box) feel like cardboard.

The cardboard shipping box and padding, and the poly-bag for the case are highly reusable. Not worth the purchase, not worth the return, so I'll keep it. And, I'll use it as I would a chipboard.
