I watched this some time ago and it really moved me. Monroe played with such simplicity out of chord forms, but his choice for the actual notes were the right ones.

Looks like early 80's and Monroe was still on his game of picking great mandolin breaks. So little effort put into such powerful picking.

Shows Monroe at his best seemingly simplistic playing.. mostly all double-stops and the constant trip-hammer down-up, down-up.

This video embodies the Monroe style blueprint (of that period) in my opinion.

It has fiddle tune technique, double stops, simplified melody, melody notes drawn over from one bar to the next - where you wouldn´t expect them, the beat is on the money, the sound is clear, there´s blues in the notes. Some of this helped me to understand Monroe´s music better.
