Monroe Stories - a new online project
Greetings to all my Cafe cohorts.
I'm starting a thread to let you know about a new website that will launch around Bill Monroe's 101st birthday this September -- and to ask a favor in getting it started. The site will be a continuation of the public radio stories that I produced for Big Mon's centennial last year. (there are links to those at my website: www.twangbox.com)
The new site is supported by a grant from the Foundation for Bluegrass Music, and we've also applied for a fellowship from SoundCloud, a platform for distributing audio on the web. To get this fellowship, we need to convince a jury, and also show some social media support for it. So I’m asking my friends here to visit this site
http://snd.sc/LRUsmh
and listen to our short pitch, and write a positive comment if you are so inclined! To comment, you need to be registered with SoundCloud, but it’s fast and free, and in fact a useful way to share audio with others here at the Cafe. And they have not been a source of spam in my experience.
And here’s the link to all the applications for the fellowship in case you want to browse:
http://soundcloud.com/groups/soundcloud-fellows-2012 - although I must warn you, that many have no mandolin content.
And if you want keep up with Monroe Stories – which, by the way, will be great and growing collection of musicians’ personal stories about the Father of Bluegrass music, you can ‘friend’ my production company on Facebook, here:

Thanks so much for your support.

Thanks, Scott and Marty and others who have sent encouraging PMs. This is a labor of love, and I hope to announce the launch here at the Cafe a bit later this year.

Can't wait to read the stories. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Re: Monroe Stories - a new online project
Butch Robins always has the best stories of Ol' Mon.
His story of Bela Fleck's audition (where 17-year old Bela is about thrown off the bus) is quite possibly the best
I spent most of the Elderly-hosted banjo camp a few years back listening to Butch and Bill Keith trade Monroe stories for about two hours, it was priceless.
