    Default strings.

    hi,could anyone suggest a suitable make and size of string for a 1919 gibson a2 mandolin primarily used as a solo instrument.thankyou.

    D'darrio (spelling?) J-74s are medium gauge. I used them on my 1916 A2 Gibson and they did great.

    I agree. D'Addario J-74s are the place to start. If the A2 is in reasonable shape it should hold them just fine. I use them on my '23 A2, and have for years.

    Every mandolin and player finds a string that his mandolin likes best. THe search is part of the game and fun. J74's are a good place to start. Cheers... R/
