I love the sign on the wall of mandolins; I didn't know they followed "The Pottery Barn rule." Note to self: don't let my four year old son play with the Master Model!

Tom, haven't you heard? That's the way ALL the Lloyd Loar building entrance scrolls were...

Hey Big Joe or Charlie, can you tell us anything about the holes drilled in the headblocks? I'm guessing maybe you fit them on a peg to spin at the proper radius while cutting the scroll slot (circle jig on the bandsaw). Looks like the ribs are glued into slots cut in the headblock to hold them til the glue dries before cutting the slot later. At least that's my rookie guesses. If you don't want to talk about it, that's OK. I figured it must not be too secret if you've got them hanging up in the open though.

Man, I wish y'all were closer to Abilene. I'd love to visit. Maybe you could put in a store at Grapevine Mills Mall in Grapvine??

I really am not sure what you are in reference to, unless you mean the tailblock? we put 'handles' in them before they are reamed for the end pin to hold the mandolin while in finish and to hang them with for drying. We don't use the headblock for anything except its intended purpose. Maybe I'm just not understanding you question. Nothing to hide whatsoever.

The holes will get a small dowel glued in as a reference pin for the top and back.

Who is the guy in the last picture on the first page? #What kind of case is that behind him - (the Scottish brand the name of which eludes me at the moment, or what)?

That would be Big Joe Vest in that photo and the first photo on the second page is Big Joe as well. A wonderful host and person. He loves mandolins as much or more than we do and he's got a killer Distressed MM. He took over an hour out of his busy schedule at the Gibson Showcase to just sit and talk mandolins with me and show me around the Showcase.
