    Default Maurri; Firenze

    I have an enquiry about a mandolin made by Ditta R. Maurri of Firenze.... nmot a maker I know..... anyone have any info at all??

    Dave, I don't know anything about the maker per se but have a few examples of his work in my files. I've seen more examples of his northern (Brescian?) style mandolins. I'll attach an example of that work and also a Neapolitan.

    I would guess his shop on Via delle Farine was a good location even back then, being right adjacent to Piazza della Signoria.

    Me too. But that later (i.e., late 1800s into early 1900s) six-string style is most usually referred to as "Lombardo," "Lombardian," "Lombard," etc., something like "Fabbricanti di Mandolini Lombardi" even appearing on the period labels of some makers.

    I have seen more often photos of a Lombardian mandolin, made by Maurri. And I have got a piece of music, for the summercourse in Italy, that is from the Nakano library, but

    I believe I even have an old method book attributed to the Maurri shop lying around someplace. I'll see if I can dig it up.
