I don't know how long you've played mandolin for or previous experiences with tremolo. I don't even know the tune or the part you're talking about. What I will say is don't give up! Learning a tune and hard-wiring it to memory in a day is pretty impressive no matter how good you are! Give yourself a break: there's tons of advice about tremolo out there on YouTube/elsewhere on the net/homespun DVDs etc. To start with think of tremolo as trying to create one long note rather than lots of simultaneous notes (even though that's what you're doing), relax, don't grip hard on the pick and make sure your forearm is relaxed too. This technique takes a lot of practice with single strings, double-stops etc. Also try to emphasise something of the timing particularly towards the end of phrases.
DON'T GIVE UP. Tremolo is hard to get right and takes a lot a practice. Been there.
