Question Can Anyone Help With Info About My Washburn?

I have a dark sunburst, 2 point 'F' style Washburn - the model No. is M-4S BG and the serial number is 1873. The label states "George Washburn - Hand crafted in the Washburn tradition of Chicago". The tailpiece cover is chrome with an engraved (or pressed) Jethro Burns signature.

I bought it in the UK about 4 years ago, I'm guessing that it's 1970's or 80's but the serial number doesn't seem to tie in with any of the similar models mentioned in other threads. Can anyone help with any information.

Tony...I have a book on Washburn mandolins and the only info they say about the M-4S and the M-5Sis that they started making them in 1978 and the style was changed a little later on and called an M-6S, the top of the line "M-5 deluxe" had gold hardware....The tops on all of them are carved spruce and the back and sides are maple with ebony fingerboards, The 4`s had dots on the fingerboard while the 5`s had fancy inlays....

Probably not much help but thats about all the book says about them.....You might try to google Washburn to check and see if they list serial number info...

    Enjoy it....Willie

Thanks Willie, that confirms what I thought. Mine has chrome hardware and dot inlays. It's my first (and so far, only) mandoline and I love it.
