Mac OS X GarageBand '11 and Tuning a Mandolin

Anyone use GarageBand '11 to tune or verify a tune on a Mandolin? Since I am brand new to this I took a look at GB on my Mac and see a tuning feature is built-in.

Just wondering if it will assist me in learning the tuning process.

There's a nice article right here on the cafe that discusses tuning a mandolin in depth. If you have an iPhone or iPad, there are many tuner apps available, or you can purchase a single-purpose electronic tuner. I have GarageBand on my iOS devices, but I haven't checked out the tuner function. When I began learning guitar over 30 years ago I had to get the instrument in tune without the aid of electronic devices (electronic tuners were not so ubiquitous back then). I still hear teachers advising their students to develop an ear for tuning the instrument, and believe that is good advice.
