    Default youtube video Antonio Calsolaro

Has anyone watched the youtube video - WALTZ Mandolin Maestro "Antonio Calsolaro" - Italian valzer?
I have watched this over and over again. Although I have been playing mandolin for a short time (and previously played the violin for over a decade) I would love to be able to someday play this good. I just love the tremolo in this piece. Something to aspire to.
Anyway, is anyone familiar with Antonio Calsolaro - or the have the music that he is playing in the video?
    Thanks,
    Joan

Thanks for the welcome Bill. It is really great to have a place to share info and ask questions about the mandolin.

The shows what can be done with an inexpensive mandolin in the hands of someone that can play well.
He is playing a sub-$100.00 Stagg mandolin in that video.

Love it. I followed it to YouTube and all 6 pages of comments looking for the name with no luck. Can anyone put a name to the tune?

I was one who asked what that tune was about a year ago and never got an answer. They show the sheet music for about a split second. It should be pretty easy to transcribe from the video which I might try to do sometime.

    Hi,

    1st post here.

Sincerely, the video is lo-quality, I guess it will be easier to transcribe by ear (the song isn't THAT complicated) insted of trying to transcribe from a video frame.

Anyway, being Italian, I may translate-resume his opening statement: "this is a kind of a song that were played in the popular feasts in the 2nd half of nineteen century, in Southern Italy. The repertoire included waltes , polkas, etc.. Let's play a waltz [title isn't readable, unfortunately, but there is a title on the sheet, not a generic "waltz"].

A friend of mine is 86, and comes from a Neapolitan family, maybe he can help identify the song. He's a great Mozart expert and was born in Milan, like me. But you never know, maybe in his youth he had listened this song and remember the title.

My mother has got a Neapolitan "Carlo Loveri" mandolin, that was played by her grandma in the 19th century. I'm a guitar&bass player, but I'd like to try to re-enter the mandoworld by buying a cheap one (that ancient piece of wood unfortunately is now almost unplayable). I've heard negative comments abut the Stagg mandos, but I can set up by myself, and this video makes me thing it may worth a try. I've got a €100 bonus I could spend at a Feltrinelli store, where the STAGG M30 is sold at € 75, gig bag included.

Welcome the the Mandolin Cafe, Frako! I did not mean that I would transcribe the music from the sheet music shown in the video frame. I meant that I would transcribe by ear, as you suggest, from his playing.

Are you sure that your mother's mandolin is unplayable. I think that would be a much better instrument than the Stagg if set up properly. Even well set up I don't think that Calsolaro's mandolin sounds all that great.

First of all we would like to thank you very much to follow our videos on Youtube... I'm writing behalf of Maestro Antonio Calsolaro (he's with me right now here in Italy) we have uploaded new music... The Maestro is a composer and he has a collection of hundreds of "music sheet" of Very old traditional Italian music, many coming from his father (an Italian barber who played Mandolin and Violin in his barber shop in Italy) and many from his own research in Italy.
He was invited to play (his Mandolin) a music for a film in Los Angeles (Lago di Seta - www.02films.com - "7Short Films About Love") and should arrive at Los Angeles this February 10, 2013 (Recording date 12th) and will be back the 17th...
It will be very nice to share capabilities and do it something together those days... Let us know please

Why don't you give us a link if you know the info? I Googled him and can find nothing but some embedded videos and a blank Facebook page.

I did see an email address on some of the videos: info@ital-usa.com. I also checked that domain but it is a general Italian business site and not Sr. Calsolaro's personal site.

If you have more info, please share.

That's actually what I saw. I would just try sending an email to that address. He's obviously a mandolin player and enthusiast, so you might luck out. Plays great, doesn't he?

Oh, I thought you saw his site. I will try writing, but everywhere that his videos appear there are multiple comments asking for the titles or sheet music to the tunes and he (or his rep) do not answer.

    Hello Friends
I'm trying to answer (when Maestro Calsolaro is with me, right now) We are working to put the complete OLD ITALIAN MANDOLIN TRADITIONAL MUSIC (from barbers of 1800 and beginning 1900) in music sheet to give you a great way to play anywhere.
There are many of traditional music in my hand (collected from my dad, he was a Barber here in Arnesano Italy, and plays violin and mandolin music)... it's a big effort to maintain this music forever... I'm sorry if i can not answer everyday... but you can send us Emails to info@ital-usa.com (we're working in our web site and will be done after we finish our full music collection)
Best Regards and thank you very much
HOPE TO PLAY VERY SOON in the USA to share music and capabilities
Antonio Calsolaro / Christian (writing in English)
