Default Mad tenor collector strikes again

If you happen to need 14 old budget-label tenor guitars and don't mind paying through the nose, check this out:

    http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/msg/3099264235.html

This is, of course, hardly the wholesale bargain that the seller claims. If you did pay $2500 for this collection and resold the guitars individually, you might earn some pocket change, but hardly enough to make it worthwhile. Seller's claim that three of these would sell for $2500 apiece on eBay is complete malarkey ... if that could be done, he should have already done it.

The KayKraft, the Roy Smeck and the Recording King are of some interest ... the rest sound perfectly ordinary.

Those black ones with the pearloid pgs look cool together. The Roy Smeck looks beat at least from the one picture. The seller is a bit cranky... I love these guys who have to sell their collections as one unit. Why? Unless you are fencing stolen merchandise, what is so holy about keeping these together other than they are all tenors.

I also don't see any that would be worth even close to $2500.

I did find a listing for one of those Smecks at $950, but it was in better shape than this one appears to be.

This guy started listing some of these tenors over a year ago. He's offered various groupings and subgroupings of them, always at ridiculously high prices. I don't understand his sudden unwillingness to break up the collection -- he seemed willing to do that earlier as long as he got his ton of flesh. $2500 for 14 tenors is the closest to reasonable that he's ever gotten. It pencils out to $178.57 per guitar. A few of them are certainly worth more than that, but several are probably worth less.

Plus shipping if you aren't local, then again he probably will only sell local.

I am local, but that doesn't mean I'm anxious to go see this guy. He comes across as, shall we say, a bit difficult.

    I can see that.

He'd probably be real angry if he had to pack them all up though.
