Ovation + TIs + Dunlop Ultex triangle 1.14

Last night i got to play the Ovation that Santa left under the tree for the first time with other people. I have new ballend TI (154K) strings, and using the Ultex 1.14 triangle, it has just the right amount of shimmer on the high notes to cut through without being irritating, and plenty of woodyness on the low notes. With this combination, the Ovation sounds actually very nice acoustic.

The TIs didn't seem to respond well to rounded "Dawg" picks; they needed a little bit more point than that.

Where can you buy the Dunlop picks? Mandohack advertised them at one time, but I didn't notice them on his website lately.

I'm with Glauber, though. I need the point to pull the sound out of the Thomastiks, and after 30 years of guitar, the shape just fits my fingers better.
For those of you keeping score at home, the rounded tri Dunop is 426P114 and the traditional (Fender 351)guitar shape is 421P114. I probably sell 5 to 1 the Tris against the pointies...

I recently got a couple of Dawg picks from a friend and try as I might, I couldn't get volume or tone out of them after three full days of using them. I do play TI strings and they simply sound great with the Fender Extra Heavies I use. Are the TI strings slicker or something?

The Dawgs work good for me on my other mando, with Elyxir (sp?) strings. I think the rounded picks tame the tendency of those strings to go shrill (to my taste). You do have to wack them a little harder than you'd do with a pointed pick. But the Dawgs don't get no sound at all from the TIs.

For me right now, the 2 kinds of Ultex are a toss. The guitar kind is a little pointier than the triangle but not tremendously so. Right now i'm preferring the triangle because it has more area for me to grip (but that could change).

Apparently you can get the Ultexes from mandohack by ordering TI strings from him. Elderly has them too, but they charge for them.

Oh, by the way, Ovation/Adamas ballend strings seem to be showing up in the usual strings Web sites now. They're a lot cheaper than TIs ($5), but for this price they're probably just guitar strings cut shorter.
