    Default 5 bucks for a Weber Bighorn A? - it's a raffle

    Greetings all:

I hope this is an appropriate post here.

We (me and some friends) put on a festival in Buffalo, Wyoming the second weekend in July (BigHornMountainFestival.com). This year it is July 6, 7, 8. We've got a great Weber Bighorn A for a raffle instrument (thank you Bruce and Mary), and all proceeds go to bands for next year. In theory, someone could win a nice mandolin for just $5 (actually, Sam won one last year for $10).

If you are interested in some tickets, take a look at the website. We will ship the instrument to whomever wins, so you don't have to be present to participate or win (by way of credibility, I've conducted some transactions over this site).

Heck, while you are at it, check out the contest page. Our mandolin winner gets a a free pass to Winfield, and is the official Wyoming State Mandolin Champion!... Yes, Wyoming really is an unheralded hotbed of blazing, kick butt, mandolin pickers (ok, maybe kidding a bit there, but some really good pickers do show up for the contest).

Anyway, check out the website for details.

    Regards and in good fun,

    Bill Bradshaw

    Hi Bill,

Am I missing something or did you leave off the link to the web site? Good luck with the raffle. Someone will be mighty happy with this Weber!

    Bill,
The website says; "You can get your tickets at Festival Merchandise Booth where the instruments will be on display. Tickets are 1 for $5, 3 for $10, and 7 for $20." Can they be purchased online, since some of us willnot be able to attend. As I will be cutting my hayfield at that time.

There is no online link to buying raffle tickets (or am I just not seeing it?), just tickets to the festival itself.

Last paragraph on the Raffle page.

This is a big fundraiser to help keep the festival going, and since you don’t have to be present to win an instrument, anyone can participate. If you want some raffle tickets in early, or can’t attend the festival, send a check to Raffle Coordinator Bill Bradshaw and he’ll fill out some tickets for you and send your ticket half back to you. Send it to Bill at BHMF, 706 Adair, Sheridan, WY, 82801. Bill guarantees your tickets will be in the raffle bucket when it comes time to draw the winning ticket on Sunday. The instrument(s) will be shipped to you if you win. Good Luck!

Yep, this is how we can do it. Obviously a little trust on both our parts, but it'll work.

I have a Bighorn (great mando) and will be at Buffalo. I'll probably buy a ticket when I get there although I don't know why I would want more then one mando.

I'm not so sure about Montana being lucky; MAS is one of the few medical conditions that's actually fun.

Now if we quit replying to this thread, it will fade quietly from the first page and give some of us better odds at winning!

    Ooops, my bad!

Sorry, gotta reply one more time. Someone emailed me asking who to make the checks out to. Definetely not me. Please make them out to Big Horn Mountain Festival. I asked our webmaster to add that bit of information to our website.

Good luck to everyone who gives it a shot.

Actually, since you're trying to raise money for the festival, the longer we keep this going, the better for you. (Unfortunately, the check I sent off to you a few days ago was made out to you!)

It'll work. Your tickets will get entered. It's better for appearances if they aren't made out to me though. You know. Good luck on the drawing, and thanks for participating.

Hi Folks, I got the Bighorn in question colored yesterday. I'll take some pictures of it this evening and post them when I get home tonight. I went with a custom color for this one. A modified Honey Burst, slightly darker around the edges than our standard Honey Burst. It will be the only Bighorn mandolin with this particular color in existence. A true one-of-a-kind. She's a beauty. Lots of nice figure in the maple. Whoever the lucky winner is should be quite pleased. Stay tuned for pics later tonight.

here are the pictures of the Bighorn. I haven't scraped the binding yet. I apologize for the reflections. Took these pics with my iPhone, and I think it made the picture of top slightly darker around the edges than it actually is.

Why would ANYONE want more than one mandolin? I mean, you can only play one at a time! And the same is true of picks. Who needs more than one pick anyhow? How many can you play at one time? Also, come to think of it, strings also. I mean, you CAN play more than one at a time, but who would want to? That Bighorn is soooo good looking, I'd probably be afraid to play it and just leave it in a glass case on display --- but I have a suspicion that it will sound as good as it looks.

But then, I'd have to play better to be worthy of such an instrument, especially if anyone else is watching --- OH NOOOOO --- am I being indecisive? I don't think so, but maybe, or maybe not, or maybe -- I'm not sure -- are mandolin players ever indecisive? I think I'll go to the equipment forum for some really decisive, definitive opinions on Absolute Truth. But first I have to find my checkbook.

Thanks for posting those pictures Brett. I knew it would be a nice mandolin; just didn't know how nice. So far people from North Carolina, California, and Florida are in. And I know some folks around here who will be in. Now I have to figure out a way to keep people from drooling all over it, once it goes out on display.

    Cheers,

    Bill
