Default Thomas Flood coming back, we hope.

Some of you are familiar with Thomas Flood, the art teacher/part time mandolin maker in Las Vegas who specialized in Martin style canted tops. You saw some of his offerings on the Cafe Classifieds from time to time. The interesting thing to me about his instruments, to me, was that he had no "standard" model. Each instrument was unique. Well, for a while it seemed like he dropped off the face of the earth. No more instruments for sale. No Web site. He didn't answer e-mails. One would be justified in coming to the conclusion that he had stopped making instruments. I finally got an e-mail back from him and I am happy to report that he says he is making instruments again, but has moved into carved mandolins. I am sad to see the cant tops go, but I am very anxious to see what his take on carved mandolins will be like. Stay tuned, he says he will advertise on the Cafe' in the not too distant future!

Good to hear this. I always thought his instruments were well made and he was very thorough in his descriptions of what material he used and how he made them. They seemed to be very durable and reasonably priced. No doubt the carved tops will cost more, but we'll see.

    Thanks for the update.

I have a sweet D hole canted top mandolin that Mr. Flood made for me a few years ago. It has a 13 inch scale, which I prefer becuase I have small hands. It was a good value and I enjoy having it in my office for those rare times at the end of the day that I need something to play on. I hope we will see more mandolins from Mr. Flood.
