When a newbie posts "What's the best F-style mandolin for $X", and you know who is going to be the first to say, "You'll get more for your money with an A!"
...AND you know the significance of ham sandwiches!
...........You're playing games just to keep the thread alive.
You've posted in at least one thread that's been locked down.
+1...AND you know the significance of ham sandwiches!
You say, "Another Wiens in the classifieds? Boy, am I tired of seeing those..."

When mandolincafe was one of the very first sites I found when we bought our first computer in 1995. And when I printed a bunch of the tabs because I wasn't sure how long the internet was going to last!!!!!
you remember and miss (as I do) Aidan Crossey's contributions to the Celtic section.

Goist and Edgerton are posting at the highest rate (~2,500 posts a year), so Mike will probably be #1 before long. Ed may reach #2 eventually, but he won't catch Mike unless he ups his game.

... you post something that gets a thread locked down. No, wait, too easy for a newbie to do that. Ummm ... when you get the last post in foretelling doom before a thread gets locked down. Yeah, that's it!![]()
Thanks for posting that link, John, and sorry about that. And look out, Alan -I'm gainin' on ya!
Wow - I had no idea. I knew I had a big mouth, but gee whiz! Believe it or not, I'm pretty quiet in person. Hope some of what I've said has helped some people ...

You have seen members flounce away only to return and post again... and flounce away. When you read through an old thread and read a post you really like only to then notice it was your own (or read an idiotic old post only to realize it was your own!)
You had thread discussions with Charlie Darrington or Alison Stephens.
You remember when all the talk was only about Thile's Hair. You posted a photo of yourself when you had hair.

Or John McGann. I feel honored to have had a few with him and one with Ms Stephens, which came from out of the blue, and is still one of my most thrilling moments here. Thank goodness I had written something fairly worthwhile, ie, something of the first kind rather than the second Jamie mentioned in his first paragraph. My eyes are kind of welling up now. Hold on ... You know, I think Alison Stephens should be awarded a posthumous ladyship.
Ed, I feel the same way about my voluminous verbiage - mixed feelings, pretty much those two.So, to address that -
You know you've been a Mandolin Cafe member a while when.....
... people who haven't been here long think you're an expert, just because you have a high post count.
I hope I haven't demystified this process to a harmful degree ...Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!

I actually have slowed way down in my posting. There are so many other good folks here that post the things I used to post.
................you're making small talk about the news, and all of your news items came from the cafe.................and you're convinced that the info. is more accurate than any other news outlet!!! "Of course I'm right. I read it on the Mandolin Cafe!"
