    Default Trip to Nashville

My family and I are going to Nashville next week. Although technically a business trip, we''l have time to see some sights and hear some music. I'd like some recommendations especially for venues that are 13-year old friendly. Definitely want to hear some blues, and maybe some rock. An Irish seisun or music would be fun too, but probably a bit much to ask for...

Also guitar stores. Gruhn's is a requirement, and is about 2 blocks from the hotel. Also, there's a Gibson outlet store somewhere? Other places to go to?

    Thanks

I'm thinking the Station Inn is kid friendly or I've seen kids on stage there. Worth a night of live bluegrass there. check their website for schedule while you are in town. I would add in a trip to CMHF downtown. Plan at least 2 hours maybe 3 to see it all. Monroe's Loar still there. The Music Outlet store I know is in Sevierville so not worth a trip that far to see that.

Depending on schedule, the Grand Ole Opry is a must. I got to go back in 1997.

Music City Roots is a live radio/internet show from the Loveless Cafe every Wednseday night. Depending on the lineup it is a great night of music. (I've only watched by the internet). Very family friendly environment. www.musiccityroots.com to give you a flavour and the upcoming lineups.

I second the Station Inn, Sunday night free bluegrass jam is always great! If your staying downtown lunch or dinner at Demo's just a couple blocks from the Ryman and Gruhn. Good and inexpensive. Loveless is nice too, good shows and good food.

Thanks for the suggestions. The bluegrass jam sounds fun, but I think I'm only bringing a tin whistle; much less stress than the mando on a plane (although I'm waiting for the time where security scans it, and decides it must be some kind of secret weapon...) Still could be fun to listen during a meal.

In regards to blues and rock BB King's is my recommendation. Apparently the house band has been there for years and they were fantastic last June about this time. Have fun

J.D. Simo at Robert's Western World, Broadway. Look him up on youtube.

I second the suggestion of RWW. Best place for
traditional country and J.D. Simo is an amazing guitarist. His Ghost Riders is super.

We arrived this afternoon, and wandered the downtown. We did find BB Kings, and they advertise for all ages, so I think we'll be there tomorrow night. I've also decided that you can't come to Nashville and not go to the Opry, so we'll take in the Tuesday night show.

Found Gruhn's (closed on Sunday), and it looks dangerous. Guitar heaven for sure. Didn't see mandolins from the window, but I know they're there.

I'll check out Robert's Western World, as we're right here on Broadway.

Also, I had my Cafe cap on, and was asked "where is the Mandolin Cafe?" It really should be in music city, right?

Did you know the great Roland White does mandolin lessons in Nashville? One day I intend to visit and when I do will book as many lessons as I can from him!
