New - Activity Stream

There's a new feature just added to the Forum called Activity Steam. The link to it is in the Quick Links menu in the main navigation area for the forum. A bit different than New Posts or Today's Posts function, it shows a wider range of activity like Group activity (one of our very busiest areas), Blog postings, Photos, etc. There's a link entitled Articles which is not currently in use--could be in the future but probably unlikely.

To customize the view, there's a Filter link on the right side of the page so that you can customize what kind of information you're looking for. The default is to show everything. Although there are links to showing activity from last 24 hours, late 7 days, month, that's effective from this day forward only.

The link is also in the Forum Actions menu in the main navigation area. I accidentally discovered with a couple quick moves to mark forums read and the Activity Stream appeared.

Thanks for catching that. I needed to reconfigure something so it only appears in one spot. I'd removed it for about 15 minutes but it's back in place now.

I put it just under the Today's Posts link because guessing most people (as I do) are used to selecting that first link entitled Today's Posts.

Very cool! My first impression was it seemed a bit ego-driven - after all, much like facebook, I have little interest in what most people are doing - but I poked around a bit and saw how useful it can be. Especially the See More button, which takes you right to a thread that looks interesting. I'm fine with scanning New Posts as a rule, but the titles don't always give an accurate picture of the current status of the discussion. Seeing these little snippets helps a lot. Plus it is now real easy to find a recent post. This is a nice addition to the toolbox. Thanks for always looking for and finding ways to improve this already great resource!

Here's another change I neglected to mention. If you click on your My Profile at the very top right side of any forum page you get a stream of activity from your friends under the "My Activity" tab. So, if you've friended another member their activity will show up there.
