I have the fiddle/mandolin combo and it isn't terribly bad... Storage is lacking (as you'd expect from the photos). It is a little "loosey-goosey" on the fiddle, but that is actually what I wanted because my main fiddle is slightly oversized. I do always put my "rosin rag" in between the head of the mando and the fiddle to make sure they don't bump together, but it works when I need to carry both.
That said, if I was taking a plan or anything where I don't have good control over who is handling the case, I still like to keep them in separate cases.
I have one of these. Not bad for the price. A must have for you "Get Up John" pickers that need that 2nd F5 tuned up and ready to go.
I have a mandolin/fiddle case. Honestly, it's much heavier and bulkier than two separate cases and has little 'useful' storage. I never use it and it's somewhere in a closet. These strike me as sounding like a better idea than they really are.

That is a great price...I bought another brand from First Quality for about another 50 bucks more, mine does have a little more storage room than what others are saying....I like to use mine when playing a festival in case something goes wrong with my main instrument and all I have to do is grab the spare....the one I bought is also pretty light weight so not much trouble carrying it around but it is kinda large, about 3/4 the size of a guitar case....

Good info, it is interesting. Like I said I don't need one but I don't need most of what i have so why be rational now?
Someone posted a question not too long ago asking about where to find a double mandolin case. The one in this thread was the only one I was able to find. I never did check back to see if anyone had found another. Lots of mando/fiddle combo cases, but almost none for two mandos. I looks like a Anvil-type case and I always found Anvil cases to be way too heavy.

That's a good point, Larry. Anvil cases and their like are very heavy. They're great for touring - they're practically indestructible - but not that practical for everyday use. I guess that's why the Caltons and such are popular: They offer great protection and are lighter weight.

Strapping 2 cases together for transport seems much simpler , to me.![]()

A Travelite double case would be the business. Mandolins are do small that it would be nice to have that option. Is it Saga that makes the Travelite? I was thinking since the don't cost a fortune I might try grafting two together in a double decker fashion. Just cut away the nylon on the top of one reinforce the material then cut the foam flat do the opposit on the other, glue them together and sew the material back. Super light weight strong and done. I seriously don't need but since I'm a bit of a mando whore I'd like to bring two when I go jam, options.
Hey Dang,
I've only seen one Calzone brand touring case in person (a banjo case) and it had no internal storage at all. The owner said that was on purpose, since to give absolute protection to the instrument nothing else was to be put inside the case with it. Is that true of your double case? It doesn't look like there's any compartment in there. I wondered if Calzone does that all the time or if he ordered his special with no storage.

My best double F case is the one that Mark Leaf made in the 80's. Not many of those around but super protection and plenty of room. Heritage makes one too that is heavy duty.
I should be pickin' rather than postin'
Regarding the case in the OP, I wouldn't buy anything from that seller. They appear to deal exclusively in low-grade junk.

Yeah that's a nice looking case. But what I like about my cheapie double case is that it's "weather-proof" with its zippered cordura covering, and various attachment rings for various strap configurations. I don't use the backpack straps much, but a shoulder strap for me is essential. It has a large zippered outer compartment as well which I've had packed with everything from large notebooks to lunch and socks. All the storage makes it valise-capable
A couple of years back I purchased a double mando case for expressed purpose of toting both my F-Style and A-Style mandolins. My thinking was that if I had both of them with me at all times I would be ready for anything.
What I found was that the case was a bit more of a hassle than just carrying the instruments separately. I also found that this particular case (not sure of the brand) didn't really offer good support for the instruments (hence the foam padding) and I was worried about the neck support.

i have two of the FQMS Modern Case (now defunct) double mando cases. I also have a Cedar Creek double case I bought from Kym Warner. I am using one of the FQMS cases now as I am carrying both an oval hole and an F hole mandolin for lessons. It is heavy. But functional and it has lots of storage room.
so many mandolins, so little time.
Bobby, You're asking about the mando/fiddle case? It's a one-of-a-kind that I designed and built.Steve, what kind of case is that one?
