I'm betting on the former. Generally sites don't get hacked, the entire server gets compromised, and yes, it's happened to me twice. Those pesky little devils really like the root a heck of a lot more than simply one site. Then they get everybody that's hosted on the box.
Slow news day?
Seems so. I imagine they'll have things sorted out soon enough, irrespective of unfounded speculation. People will just have to find other places to chat for a while. Tough times. In the meantime, be strong.

Tough times indeed. Maybe Scott could carve out a spot here for the Collings Forum Refugees? Maybe a benefit concert?
Ok, since this situation is tantamount to a full blown natural disaster the time to act is now! I've gone ahead and formed the "Collings Forum, Refugee Assistance Network", if we all act quickly now we can save many, many people who may otherwise suffer without a place to debate the merits of nut width, varnish vs. lacquer, brazilian vs. hog and so many more life altering topics. I've gone ahead and gotten t-shirts made so we can raise money for these horribly displaced refugees. All proceeds from the sale of the shirts will go to temporary internet hosting. Please folks, it takes a village, be generous.

This just in:

The site's Admin is on the other side of the planet and keeps a very busy schedule, but he's aware of the problem. Once he and the site's hosting company work out the details it'll be back online. Given the time difference between the Admin and the host it could take a few days for them to communicate.

I wonder what would happen if the Cafe went down for a few days?
There would be lots of,
Everyone would be,
The lack of Cafe contact would make so many,
and then, when the Cafe was finally back up and running, everyone would be like![]()

Interesting. Never looked at the Collings forum. See they're using the custom Collings header (ugly!) I created for Mass Street Music's first web site in late 1995 or early 1996 as their banner art--shouldn't be on a white background--and soliciting donations to keep it open.
Such a titillating conversation this was. Carry on.

I think you pretty much summed it up there. This is the only one of these doohickeys I participate in, and it's plenty for me. Which is not to say that I haven't joined a few others along the way, but always on an ad hoc basis - searching for something, came to one of these sites, saw someone had posted something so off the wall I had to take the time to register and try to set them straight - and rarely if ever even wander past them again. This one, devoted to one of my main interests, and also incorporating by association a great number of related interests, takes care of about all my needs in the area. If it went down, would I seek out another venue for my voracious vocation of voluminous verbiage? Nahhh ... this is good enough and all I need. I never go to the Mandolin Hangout, hardly ever participate in the social groups I belong to - this is enough time wasting - I mean, information communication - for me.
But back in the late 90s, when I was a reviewer and editor for a music monthly, and a fierce proponent of female singer-songwriters, I belonged to five or six fan forums, enjoyed them tremendously, and learned a lot about a lot of other performers. Haven't kept up with them since I got back into performing myself rather than writing about others. Go figure. Prolly 'cause Sarah never returned any of my emails ...![]()
