Default Two new Wilsons just hatched

Wilson #014 and #015 just completed within the last week and ready to take to the Fathers Day Festival in Grass Valley, CA. I'll be set up in the Music Caravan booth that will be operational the 1st part of next week during music camp and later in the week we'll move over to the festival stage area. #14 has a carpathian top, and slip matched red maple back with ivoroid (triple) binding and a mini ebony pick guard. #15 is tortoise bound with a red spruce top and hard maple and really nicely figured one piece back and a mini figured maple guard. Both have radiused boards, James tailpieces, Cumberland Acoustics bridges, and Gotoh tuners retrofitted with period correct screws. #14 has mop buttons while #15 has black celluloid buttons. Both are oil varnished with a hand rubbed Truoil overfinish. And they are still available if anyone is so inclined.

Stunning work Craig !!. I especially like the slightly understated headstock binding on the 'Fern' model. Coupled with the black tuner buttons it looks very, very classy indeed,

Well, I messed the Cross inlay first time I looked, saw post and revisited. Very nice and neat way to display your faith.
Would love to hear these pieces of art.

The one piece back is from a piece of lumber I got from Hans Brentrup when we spent a weekend in Minneapolis on our road trip to IBMA last fall. I have enough left to do another back but it looks destined for a commission I'll be starting next month.

I have had the pleasure to play all of Craig's Mandolins and they are all powerful instruments. Great volumn and even tone. I played #15 with the one piece back last night and even though it was just strung up if was powerful and getting better the longer we played it. You can lean on it all you want. It responds wonderfully.

Those are some fine looking mandolins. I am really drawn visually to # 15, and the back wood, thats'a nice. Can't wait to hear how she sounds.
