Default c.1930 Regal Hog/Spruce Tenor Guitar (rare) + "Database" release!

I just finished up this beautiful, rarer-model hog/spruce variant of the "original" Regal tenor guitar design this morning. My wifey snagged it for the time being for her (our?) uke-tuned collection of instruments and I can't blame her, though it did sound particularly awesome in CGDA!

For more info & more pics, click here to check out the blog post.

ALSO!! I recently compiled an ongoing "database" of instruments I've posted on the blog since I began posting (I still have to do some retroactive posting of old photos) and organized them by presumed maker and close-enough date, which could be helpful if you're looking for similar instruments to cross-reference. Check that out by clicking here!

Gosh Jake, that's a lot of old instruments you've got through there - particularly enjoyed browsing through some of those parlor guitars - almost tempted me over to the dark side for a moment there

Heh, heh. Everything is tempting when it's so darn good.

    I like that tailpiece
    Great idea
Puts better tension on the top than a standard tailpiece
I will try a banjo bridge on my Regal tenor dobro
I always find rattling due to not enough tension on the spider
A banjo tailpiece will be a temporary solution until I can find someone willing to do a neck reset in my price range(hint hint nudge nudge wink wink)

    Thanks

I have one of these little Regals, and it came with its original fitted hardshell case. Just the cutest little case you can imagine. Mine's also spruce over mahogany.

As an aside, I think it's interesting that these didn't come with a pick guard, since it's hard for me to imagine a way of playing the little things that wouldn't result in a lot of wear to the top. Unless they were meant to be played uke-style with bare fingers.

Brad: When they were first built it was just the fashion to not have pickguards. Regal only really started using them in the mid-30s when they started getting more popular.

And when you can find an unfaded example, the reds and greens of the colorful trim and rosette are just amazing.
