Default Anyone going to Santa Cruz to do Klezmer with Andy Statman?

Andy is doing a workshop on klezmer mandolin techniques. Darn! I play klezmer mandolin every day and can't attend. There are so few klezmer mandolin players I think.... is this a rare opportunity?

Anyone else interested or planning on attending?

I wonder if I could do a Skype lesson with him?

I play Klezmer mandolin every day also. I teach it! We are studying Andy Statman's "Flatbush Waltz" in our Mandolin Group Class that meets Monday Nights here in South Hadley. We have openings if anybody would like to join us.

I would love to attend the symposium, but cannot. Will you be going? If so, will you post your feedback here? That would be great.

Well there is another klezmer mandolin player out there! Maybe there is someone who plays every other day...

At the very least we can help each other. I'm not going to the Symposium. I may change my mind at the last minute. But Andy must think a klezmer workshop is worthwhile. And that's good news for me.

Right now I'm working on the Hora from Bukovina and Sher 199 from the Beregovski Book. I've studied with Jeff Warshauer in KlezKanada for a number of years. Another amazing music camp and another great musician.

I've taken Andy's Symposium classes a few years now..........he is a force of nature, what an inspiring player! One class focused on Flatbush Waltz & he taught it in such detail & nuance, he only got through the A part. I thought I could play it before the class........but went home with new thoughts on "really" listening to recordings, the way you go into & out of notes, timing, dynamics, etc. It isn't just playing the notes, it is how you play them........very inspiring! And the way he can improvise is like turning on a faucet......the music just flows, idea after idea, never repeating but building upon what he has played.....like I said earlier.....Andy is a force of nature! An amazing musician!
