Well in the 70's I got a Used Gibson A40n from someone for $150..
but even at 3% compound inflation happens..

I think the best Gibson mandolin to be had for the money is a A40 or A50 from the forties..My old A40 is better sounding than a A9 I used to own.
After I started playing mandolin I came to appreciate how cheap guitars really are!![]()
I dunno... I have't played a ton of Gibsons, but of the 3-4 F9's I've played, only one had anything going for it; the other two were very, very thin sounding. For the price of a new one, you could find a good used Ratliff or upper end Kentucky. No Gibson name, but likely better sound.
