Default Audio and video synchronization on youtubes

It seems that there is a very noticable delay between the video and audio on youtubes played through the cafe. When I play them directly through youtube, they sync up fine.

I wonder this is something related to the cafe, or to my computer. My other computer is down for now, but when its back I will test it and see.

YouTube's videos and sound are served by YouTube, not the Mandolin Cafe. When you're looking at a page here with a YouTube video embedded, the connection at that point is between your personal computer which has cached the page locally on your hard drive wherever you're located and YouTube. The Cafe at that point isn't involved other than visually. If you were listening to an MP3 we host, then yes, we would be involved, but we don't host YouTube's video data.

It seems to happen on both of my computers. The video is a second or more behind the audio, but only if I accessed the youtube through the cafe. When I watch it from the youtube site its fine.

Is there something about how my computer does the cache that slows down the video? (if I knew more of what I am talking about I would probably be embarrassed at my question.)

This hasn't always been the case, though I am hardpressed to say when it started. Sometime in the last year I guess.

The thing in common with both computers I run is that I am running archaic software: Windows XP pro and Internet Explorer 7. I have a third computer, that until now has never been on the internet. (I use it for calculations.) Other than that they are both on the same network.

Could this problem be related somehow to "improperly" embedded videos, per the new thread on the proper way to do this? Long shot I figure but had to ask.

It is a real pain. Especially when watching Chris Thile's fingers, where even a small delay is infuriating.

Most likely, I think, the problem is at my end, which means any advice you can give is free consulting for which I am very appreciative. (Kind of like asking a friend in construction to help me fix the steps, for nothing but a beer or two.) Could this be a RAM issue? Can this be fixed by me doing something clever through the Performance tab on each computer?

I'll keep a six pack on ice for you.

    No.

An embedded video anywhere is not going to be the same as viewing on YouTube directly. If they have a choice, and they do, they'll provide the best bandwidth to videos viewed locally because that's where their advertising is. Some videos just naturally have a lag. My last Vimeo I recorded I had the frame settings too high and it lags a bit no matter where it's viewed. Sorry, but PC support isn't my forte. If you want to be a Jedi master using vi on the Unix command line, I'm your guy, but as far as performance issues with a desktop or laptop, not my strength.
