David Nichols is a luthier in Malone, NY (near the Canadian border) that does excellent work. His website is www.custompearlinlay.com (as pointed out above) and Dave's claim to fame is as much his inlay work as his skills as a luthier.

I walked into Dave's shop several years ago carrying some banjo parts I wanted inlaid and finished. We'd spoken on the phone but never met. He looked up from his bench and said "I can teach you to play the mandolin in 20 minutes". Those were his first words to me that day. I left with the first mandolin I ever bought not to sell. I spent what had to be one of the most memorable days of my life in his shop, it was a true experience. If the picture of Dave next to Orville Gibson's grave (also in Malone) is still on his website, I took that picture.

He really does do exceptional work.

Does he still build mandos? Or does Dave only do inlay work?
I am on the lookout for an excellent quality F Style mando for an afordable price.
is the F mando worthwhile checking out and how do Dave' instruments sound and play?
    thanks for all the feedback.
