    That's scary!

What do you remove with - just the good old damp cloth? How long did it take before you could see it was eating away?

Most polishes will do that, even to lacquer.

I just use a soft cloth and make sure I get it all. I noticed the next morning that I had left a little spot on the back of the peghead the previous night. (I was tired and it was late).

This may be old news to some of you, but I found this FP tutorial to be very helpful in learning the process and finishing several ukulele's I've built: http://www.milburnguitars.com/fpbannerframes.html
I've used "Mequiar's ScratchX 2.0" for the final polish and it worked wonderfully.
