    Default 1965 Catania Carmelo

    Hi all!!
So, I'm a total newbie to mandolins...and, well...playing any instrument. I was in a guitar store with my boyfriend, looking for a guitar for him, when I saw this beautiful mandolin on the wall. It completely stole my heart. Honestly, I didn't even know what kind of instrument it was when I first saw it. I just had to buy it though; it was probably the most random purchase of my life. It's the first musical instrument I've ever owned, and my goal is to learn one song

The tag inside says it's a 1965 Catania Carmelo. It seems to be in quite good condition. I read some posts here on Mandolin Cafe that had information on this brand. However, if you have any additional information, I would love to hear it! I'd especially like to know what kind of wood it is.

    Thanks, everyone!

Beautiful mandolin. I have a Carmelo Catania 1953, not the same pick guard inlay, mine is made of Mahogany.
They have a nice sound. Thanks for posting, good luck with the song

Catania Carmelo is a well-established company in Catania, Sicily. Catania was one of the major instrument making centers in Italy. You can read (in Italian) all about the company here. They made lots of oddball guitars as you can also see from that site.

Thanks, Jim! Thanks to Google Translate, I was able to understand some of the history!
