    Default new Collings day

New Collings MT. Not the best photo (it was about to start raining), but here it is. I will try to add a better pic of it tomorrow.

Amateurs practice until they can play it right.
Professionals practice until they can't play it wrong.

A lot. It's replacing an Eastman MD604E (shown on the left below), for which I have a buyer. I have nothing but praise for the Eastmans - at the price, they are excellent mandos (in my view, not that it's an expert one). But the Collings is more consistent over the range of the whole mando. So the very low and very high notes are all equally musical along with the butter notes. It also has a more bell-like tone. Still growing on me ... only had it a day!

congrats ...i really like those mt's just like they are, they're great players with great color and finish ...but in fairness, it's an apples and oranges comparison to an oval.

just gave the new Collings its first public workout - a bluegrass jam here in Brooklyn (yes, there are such things). Very satisfied. Besides being very musical across the full fretboard, it really cuts through. The other players commented on that.

Good point from mtucker about comparison to an oval, which this is replacing. That oval had one gig for which it seemed perfect - I will have to see how the Collings does with that one.
