Stuart Duncan did it along with every fiddle part in nearly all his albums as well as George Strait. There's a video on the tube somewhere when Alan did that song for the first time on the awards show (CMA's maybe?). You can see Stubob playing it there in several camera shots.
As an added bonus, there's a lovely blonde backup singer standing next to him but don't know who she is...

I believe Mark McClurg of the backup band The Strayhorns played mandolin on those records.
Stuart Duncan played mandolin on it. I talked to him about what mandolin he used, he said it was his old kay that he regraduated!! Goes to show us, it's not always the instrument, but the player that makes the tone!
